Vice Documentary : How Weed Laws Are Failing the UK

High Society is a new VICE documentary series about drugs in the UK. This episode takes a look at how current cannabis laws are failing the UK. The presenter meets figures such as Lee Harris (candidate for Cannabis is safer than Alcohol and owner of London's oldest head shop), Greg de Hoedt (president of the United Kingdom Cannabis Social Clubs) and Black The Ripper (UK Rapper and cannabis advocate). This 20-minute episode on the UK cannabis scene doesn't have enough time to go into much detail, but you get a sense from watching the documentary that UK perception is changing, with the documentary pointing out quite rightly that more than half of both people and MPs want to see legal access to cannabis in one form or another. Several positive topics are covered including the April 20th celebrations in Hyde Park, Medical and recreational cannabis. In one scene the presenter meets Greg who tells him how he quit cannabis whilst at uni only to find it was an effective medicine for his Crohn's Disease. Ital Samson aka Black The Ripper has gained a lot of attention for his various videos featuring cannabis consumption in public places, and he features in the documentary, as does Lee Harris who ran for mayor for Cannabis is Safer than Alcohol to make a statement. I felt this episode could have gone into more detail on all of the topics covered, but being limited to 20 minutes it did a good job to cover several key areas. Some of the negative sections included a scene about a granny growing cannabis in Birmingham, (not itself a bad thing, but it was presented as tied to gangs and with hijacked electricity - not painting a good picture!), and another about some of the gangs who go around stealing cannabis crops. I feel that these scenes, in particular, should have been highlighted to be problems caused by prohibition, but perhaps this shows the disparity in perception of the UK cannabis campaign from the outside. After all, the law puts us all in the same boat, does it not? Watch the documentary How Weed Laws Are Failing the UK and read the youtube description below:

How to Cure Cannabis

Have you ever picked up cannabis that smells damp, grassy, and generally not nice, or dry cannabis that doesn't smell great? Read this article on How to cure cannabis to get the most out of your batch.

Curing is possibly the most overlooked aspect of cannabis production, and until recently was all but ignored within the black market here in the UK. Back in the day, not many people knew how to cure cannabis correctly. Fortunately due to competition and more choice, more producers are paying attention to curing and the quality of cannabis is going up. I wish I'd have known this information when I started smoking weed, because for what seems like years I was picking up foul-tasting or smelling weed, and I never knew that I could make it better by curing it before consumption.

Smoking Weed from Amazon.co.uk

A couple of months ago I noticed that Amazon.co.uk were selling 'Hemp Tea' ie the cannabis plant with very trace amounts of THC (0.03%). The reviews were varied, but overall positive, with a lot of them mentioning the customers purchasing the bud to smoke. So naturally I wanted to make a video smoking weed from Amazon, to find out what it smokes like, and if it is worth the money.

ISMOKE Interviews Greg de Hoedt, Chairman of the UK Cannabis Social Clubs Movement

A few years ago when we were releasing a monthly magazine Greg de Hoedt, (also known as Cure UK back then) wrote regular features for ISMOKE and formed part of our panel of cannabis experts discussing topics on a monthly basis. Nowadays Greg runs the United Kingdom Cannabis Social Clubs movement, an organised cannabis community that is growing every day. Formed in 2011, the UKCSC aims to unite and give guidance to the various Cannabis social clubs popping up all over the UK in varying forms, some holding smoke-friendly meet-ups for their users.

How to Make Cannabis Coconut Oil Part 1

I fell in love with cannabis infused coconut oil when a friend came round with about 100g of mulch weed, basically a big bag of medium grade bud dust and stalk. He’d been playing around with cannabis infused coconut oil but hadn’t quite hit the strength/dosage on the head yet. I suggested we make it using the same simple process as making Cannabis-infused butter. Throw all the mulch in a pot with water and coconut oil and simmer it for an hour. In my past experience using mulch in butter I’d found that roughly 1g of material is good for one person’s dose, using that information we agreed to put 130g of coconut oil in the pot, taking into consideration that some of the coconut oil would probably get lost in the process, as there was a lot of plant material there that would trap some of it, ultimately we hoped to end up with roughly 100g yield. (I have since refined my process so as my final yield is actually higher than the amount of coconut oil I put into the pot, accounting for the weight of the cannabinoids the coconut oil has absorbed)
