Welcome to a new series here on the ISMOKE Channel. Strain Focus is our deep-dive look at the interesting facts behind a cannabis strain, with a different variety taking the spotlight each episode.
Up first, we have Purple Punch. This strain was voted Strain of the Year in the US in 2017.
Brought to the market by Symbiotic Genetics (Budologist in collaboration with The Village) in 2017, the history of this strain goes back further, having originally being gifted to budologist by Hawaiian breeder Supernova Gardens in 2013.
Despite initial disinterest from dispensaries, The Village persisted with Purple Punch, demonstrating its potential by achieving higher THC test results. Purple Punch then made its journey from The Village to Los Angeles, underlining the global reach and influence of this strain.
Purple Punch is an indica-dominant strain with a compact stature and round buds, renowned for its aromatic and colourful flowers. Known as an evening strain, Purple Punch provides relaxation without causing drowsiness, making it a suitable choice for those seeking moderate effects.
The strain combines the fruity purple flavours of Granddaddy Purple with the fuel-like aroma of Larry OG, resulting in a unique and flavourful strain. Purple Punch has potential therapeutic uses for sleep, depression, pain, anxiety, and stress, but it may not be suitable for those wishing to stay awake and active.
Crossing the lemony, gassy Larry OG ( OG Kush X SFV OG) with Granddaddy Purple (Purple Urkle X Big Bud), Purple Punch has been used in the creation of other well-known strains such as Mimosa.
