Welcome to another edition of Bud Facts! This week our cannabis spotlight falls on a heavy Indica strain that some users report literally tastes purple.
Grandaddy Purple, or GDP, is a California staple – it is a famous genetic cross of Big Bud and Purple Urkle, two well-known, powerful Indica strains. It’s known for its deep purple hues and snowy white trichomes. This strain combines the sweet, complex grape and berry aroma of its parent, Purple Urkle, with the robustly earthy and piney profile of Big Bud. GDP is celebrated for its potent psychoactive effects, including relaxation and euphoria, making it a preferred choice for managing stress, pain, insomnia, appetite loss, and muscle spasms. Its striking appearance, delightful taste, and therapeutic benefits have cemented Granddaddy Purple’s status as a staple in the world of cannabis strains.
Ken Estes created Grand Daddy Purple back in 2003 in search of the ultimate indica-hybrid. Ken had previously discovered the therapeutic benefits of medical cannabis after being paralysed from the waist down in a motorcycle accident in July 1976. He became an activist in the 90s, working with Dennis Peron and others before opening his own Medical Marijuana Collective in Concord, California.
