Strain Summary
Platinum Cookies, also known as Platinum Girl Scout Cookies or PGSC, is a balanced hybrid strain that encapsulates the best qualities of its parent strains, Durban Poison and OG Kush, along with another unidentified strain. This cannabis variety showcases THC levels ranging from 16.25% to 19.5%, with a notably high CBD content of 2.39% to 2.7%, making it accessible even to adventurous beginners. The strain is recognized for its complex flavor profile, characterized by berry and sweet notes, underpinned by the dominant terpene, Caryophyllene.
Users of Platinum Cookies report immediate effects of happiness, relaxation, euphoria, upliftment, and creativity, making it an excellent choice for daytime use. Its balanced effects render it particularly effective for individuals suffering from stress, anxiety, pain, depression, and headaches, offering a reprieve that fosters focus on other activities. However, potential side effects include dry mouth and eyes, anxiety, paranoia, and dizziness.
Cultivation of Platinum Cookies from feminized seeds presents a challenge, particularly for novices, due to its specific growth requirements. The plant yields generously when grown outdoors, with indoor cultivation yielding slightly less. It demands attentive care but rewards growers with moderate flowering times of 8 to 10 weeks. The terpene profile, rich in Caryophyllene, Myrcene, Carene, Terpineol, Geraniol, and Ocimene, contributes to its sweet, fruity taste and aroma, with nuances of berries, spice, and nuttiness, offering a multi-layered sensory experience.
Background
Did you know that Platinum Cookies is a phenotype of Girl Scout Cookies? That means that Platinum Girl Scout Cookies is a powerful 50/50 hybrid strain is the result of crossing OG Kush X Durban Poison (plus an unnamed strain).
According to my reading, the Platinum Girl Scout Cookies goes even further than GSC in terms of its effects. Being a fan of this family of strains this news got me quite excited.
Today I’m going to see how it smokes…
Key facts:
- Durban Poison X OG Kush X Unnamed Strain
- Phenotype of Girl Scout Cookies
- 50/50 hybrid strain
Appearance
First up, let’s talk about the appearance of this sample. Platinum Girl Scout Cookies has a strong, well-developed bud structure with bright golden pistils protruding wildly.
This particular Platinum Cookies strain is incredibly dense, and as I squeeze it I hear the bud start to crack in a way which suggests to me that it is both perfectly dry and well-cured.
The colouration of this bud is a strong green, but with the gold of the pistils shining through.
The trim job isn’t the best and the leaves that remain aren’t squished in, leading me to believe this Platinum Girl Scout Cookies sample isn’t imported and has probably been grown in the UK.
Smell
As I pop open the pot to retrieve the sample I’m immediately hit with a delicious cookies scent, which continues to grow in intensity as I handle, break open and finally grind-up the bud.
The Platinum Cookies strain has earthy, sweet notes to it (not the same as OG Kush, none of the gassy aroma).
It is a particularly pungent-smelling cannabis strain, the pungency actually sticking inside my nostrils after I smelled the sample.
Taste
As usual, I’ll be testing out this strain with my bong – this week I’m using the trusty Chongz Widow Maker bong.
This bowl isn’t nearly as smooth as I was expecting – the intensity comes through, but so does the flavour, and wow, it tastes great!
I surprised myself as I thought I’d easily be able to handle this hit in one breath, but couldn’t as the bong got very milky!
The taste of the Platinum Cookies is strong, with the sweet, earthy and pungent notes all coming through on the exhale.
Really, really strong flavour. Perhaps in part because this particular sample has been curing for a while!
Effects
OK, so on to one of my favourite bits..how does this strain make me feel?
As a 50/50 hybrid, I’m expecting both indica and sativa effects to hit me simultaneously, but it doesn’t quite work like that! I can feel it begin to kick in a few minutes after consumption, giving me the inkling that this is going to be a strong one.
The first (and main) thing to hit me is the relaxation – I feel like I’ve smoked more of an Indica strain, but can feel the cerebral effects also, particularly after the 10 minute mark – they seem to hit me after the indica-side of this hybrid cannabis strain.
And it’s a strong one! The Platinium Girl Cookies strain delivers a solid high after one bong hit, so much so that I didn’t need to go back for a second straight away.
Overall
In conclusion, I really like Platinum Cookies. Of course, this was a great sample, but the genetics in this one are strong as well. I find myself wondering whether this could make my top 10 this year!
If you’re looking for a powerful strain that delivers good flavour and potency then Platinum Girl Scout cookies could be a strain for you!
