How To Use a Rolling Machine – Step by Step Guide (With Photos)
This guide will show you how to use a rolling machine to build a joint. It is suited to those wishing to roll who have not yet developed the skillet or people who have reduced dexterity.
Note: A rolling machine can never replace the art of rolling by hand, but it’s a cracking alternative!
Whether you fancy a spliff, a cigarette, or a straight-up joint, this guide has got you covered. We’re featuring the RAW Hemp plastic composite rolling machine, as showcased on our ISMOKE YouTube channel, for this demo.
What You’ll Need
- Grinder: To get that herb in the perfect condition.
- Herbs: Your choice, but let’s keep it quality, shall we?
- Roaches (Tips): To keep things tidy and to maximise airflow.
- Skins (Papers): Your canvas, essentially.
Step 1 – Grind your herbs
Step 2 – Position the rolling machine as pictured
With the vinyl rollers in the open position. Place your tip inside on the left or right of the rolling machine, depending on preference. You can even place one at each end and then cut the joint in half when complete for two smaller joints!
Note: The raw rolling machine used in this demonstration has two settings, one for regular and one for skinny joints. You can adjust this by sliding a switch as shown below (vertical up = thin joint).
Step 3 – Fill Evenly between the rollers with herb
Place your ground material between the rollers in an even spread. It should look like a joint now (don’t worry, we will add the paper shortly).
Step 4 – Close the rollers together & roll
Remove any excess herbs caught above the rollers when it has been closed. Now the rollers are together, roll the bottom roller towards you in one full rotation. The RAW machine used in this demonstration has arrows to show you which way to move the rollers.
Step 5 – Add your paper
The paper will slide between the rollers – it must be sticky side up and facing you like so:
Step 6 – Continue to roll the front roller towards you
You don’t need to move the back of the two rollers – if you cannot roll the front roller towards you, you may have the device upside down. If this is the case, flip it over, reposition your paper so the sticky faces you at the top and then roll the (now) front-facing roller towards you.
Step 7 – Lick the paper
You should now have the sticky piece of the rolling paper protruding from the rolling machine (as pictured above). Lick the top strip as you would a typical joint/cigarette.
Step 8 – Continue to roll the front roller around a couple of times
Step 9 – Open the rollers
Your joint should be ready now! You can open the rollers and shake the machine, and the joint should fall out. It may be a bit of a squeeze, but it should come out quickly enough.
Step 10 – Enjoy your joint!
The joint produced will be even and tightly packed so that it will burn slower than a regular joint.
It looks like a straight cigarette – this tech is used for cigarette rolling machines, although the length of this product makes it best suited for rolling joints.
We filmed a video for our YouTube channel demonstrating the RAW rolling machine in action with some Original Glue, and you can watch it below:
